The Clear Lake School Board is scheduled to meet tonight (Wednesday, Jan. 11) to discuss possible spending cuts.

At its December meeting, the Board estimated it would need to trim $400,000 from its 2017-18 budget.

“We will be discussing options to get to that mark, given the early retirements and any reductions,” explained Superintendent Doug Gee.  “The early retirements will help with our cuts tremendously.”

Public invited to tour new facilities at GHV Friday

The public will have the chance to tour new facilities at Garner-Hayfield-Ventura High School Friday, Jan. 13.  An open house will be held during the varsity halftimes at the home basketball games.

The $7.2 million project includes a science wing, special education addition, fine arts storage and wrestling/weight room addition.

Firefighters dispatched to care center

The Clear Lake Fire Department was dispatched to Oakwood Care Center at 400 Highway 18 West, on the report of a fire in the basement Wednesday, Jan. 4.

At 7:52 a.m. the Clear Lake Fire Department responded with one ladder company, a command vehicle and one ambulance. Upon arrival, the fire had already been extinguished by the maintenance employee, and residents had been moved to safe locations within the building by staff.

The CLFD was on the scene for approximately one and one half hours ventilating the building.
