GHV boys clinch Top of Iowa West Conference title

The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura boys have been perfect all season in the Top of Iowa Conference West Division and Thursday night they clinched the TIC West title with a win over West Hancock.  The Cardinals’ record is 14-0 in the TIC Conference West; they are 18-1 overall.

GHV 80, Eagle Grove 32

The Cardinals traveled to Eagle Grove on Tuesday, Jan. 31, where they dominated the Eagles (2-10, 3-13) in a 80-32 trounce.

The Iowa High School Athletic Association has released its 2017 post-season basketball pairings

Clear Lake and Garner-Hayfield-Ventura will both participate in the Class 2A District 3 bracket and both have received first round byes.  The first games for the local teams will be played at Garner Thursday, Feb. 16.

The Lions will take on the winner of the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows vs. Hampton-Dumont played Feb. 13.  Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m. at Garner.

Clear Lake advanced four wrestlers out of a strong Sectional Tournament Saturday at Algona.  The Lions finished third overall, narrowly missing a chance to advance to State dual competition.  Clarion-Goldfield-Dows ran away with the Sectional title, scoring 242 points.  Algona was second with 187 and Clear Lake was third with 186.  A fall recorded by an Algona wrestler in a wrestle back for second place lifted

“Be True To Your School” night planned

Several Clear Lake High School students are members of the Mason City Hockey Club.  On Saturday, Feb. 11, “Be True To Your School” night will be held to recognize Clear Lake players.  Players will be introduced between the games and will throw-out T-shirts.  The event will take place at the North Iowa Ice Arena.  The JV team will begin at 6:15 p.m.
