GHV grapplers compete in Eagle Invite

The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura wrestling team competed in the Eagle Invite on Thursday, Dec. 22.

St. Ansgar 54, GHV 24

Despite a strong showing in the lower weights, GHV couldn’t collect enough points, and St. Ansgar topped the Cards, 54-24.

Five wrestlers picked up wins for GHV:

Drew Furst, 106 pounds, won by forfeit.

Austin Case, 113 pounds, pinned Sam Juenger in :31.

At 126 pounds, Caleb Renner won by a 7-4 decision over Connor Springer.

Helen Elizabeth Peters, 69, of Clear Lake, died Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2016, at Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason City, Iowa.

Per Helen’s wishes, her body has been cremated and no services are scheduled.

Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapels, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.

Helen Elizabeth Peters, 69, of Clear Lake, died Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2016, at Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason City, Iowa.

Per Helen’s wishes, her body has been cremated and no services are scheduled.

Steven A. Dethlefs, 59, of Clear Lake, died Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2016, at the Mercy Medical Center North Iowa, Mason City, Iowa.

Memorial services will be held at a later time.  Family suggests memorials in memory of Steve Dethlefs be sent to Glenyce Abrahams, P.O. Box 682, Doniphan, Ms., 63935.

Steve was born April 16, 1957, in Mason City, the son of Donald and Glenyce (Whitehurst) Dethlefs. He was a graduate of Clear Lake High School, class of 1976.

Richard Berry, 73, of Hayward, Wis. and Naples, Fla. and formerly of Ventura, Iowa, passed away in Naples on Dec. 23, 2016.

Upon his wishes there will be no funeral, just a simple family gathering.

Richard was best known as the former owner of Rich’s Muskie Lounge, in Ventura, for almost 30 years.

He will be sadly missed by many, including special friend, Julienne; brothers, Darwin (Verla), Bob, Mike (Grace); many nieces and nephews; and grandnieces and grandnephews.

Hazel M. Charlson

Hazel Maxine Charlson, 99, of Northwood, Iowa, died Monday, Dec.19, 2016, at the Breen Unit, Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood.

A funeral service for Hazel was held on Friday, Dec. 23, 2016, at the Conner Colonial Chapel, 1008 First Ave. South, Northwood, with Reverend Ed Bard officiating.  Burial was in the Clear Lake Cemetery.
