Shaw crowned champion

The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura wrestling team competed at the Nashua-Plainfield tournament on Saturday, Dec. 10.  The Cardinals placed ninth with 54.5 points.  MFL-Mar-Mac won the team title with 195 points.

Conner Shaw was the lone champion for the GHV.  Shaw won the 170-pound title with a 3-2 decision over Hudson’s Taylan Entriken.

We’re iced in!

The ice on Clear Lake was officially called “in” on Dec. 8, 2016 by Paul J. Fredriksen, superintendent of the Clear Lake Water Department.

The date appears to be about average for the winter occurrance.  According to city records, the latest date on record for the lake to be declared iced-in is Dec. 24, 2001.  The earliest date on record is Nov. 4, 1991, which many recall as the year of the Halloween blizzard.

‘Art Angel’ steps up to help Center continue holiday giving program

Since 2010, volunteers at the Clear Lake Arts Center have been creating one-of-a-kind ornaments out of fused glass in the John Larsen Glass Studio as a thank you gift to people making a donation to the Arts Center’s Youth Arts Program. Over the years, these ornaments have obtained the title Art Angels, although at times they looked more like an elf or penguin than an angel. The title Art Angel is also given to the person making the donation, or the friend, or family member, in which the donation is honoring.
