Jones defends State Tennis title

Clear Lake High School senior Sam Jones capped off a dominating senior year by successfully defending his Class 1A State Tennis title.  Jones claimed his second State Championship Saturday.

The doubles team of Ben Mason and Jacob Peterson earned a fourth place finish at the State Meet.

Lions finish fourth at State Golf Tournament

The Clear Lake boys golf team made a run at a State title, even holding a two-stroke lead after day one, but the Lions had a tough day two and finished fourth in the Class 2A field at Lakeside Golf Course in Fort Dodge.  Panorama, Panora outdistanced the field with 604.  St. Edmond was runner-up with 613 and Kemper Catholic, Carroll was third with 614.  The Lions finished with 618.

Clear Lake baseball team goes 2-1 in opening week

The Clear Lake baseball team started its season off with a bang last week, hosting Class 1A number one ranked and defending state champion Newman Catholic, a highly regarded New Hampton team, and then playing in Riverfront Stadium in Waterloo.  The Lions, who were also top ranked in Class 2A and are defending state champs, went 2-1 in their first week.

The Clear Lake softball season got underway under new Head Coach Austin Peterson last week.  The Lions jumped right into the fire, facing Class 4A powerhouse Waverly-Shell Rock and North Central Conference foe Fort Dodge St. Edmond.

The Lions are currently 1-1 and 1-0 in conference.  They travel to Iowa Falls, Wednesday, June 1, for another conference battle.
