GHV falls to Denver and Mason City

It was another rough week for the Garner-Hayfield-Ventura boys soccer team, as they dropped two matches.

Denver 4, GHV 2

Although the Cardinals had topped Denver earlier in the season, Tuesday night, May 17, didn’t go the same way.   

GHV’s Frayne advances to State Golf Meet

Garner-Hayfield-Ventura’s Bailee Frayne and Kyleigh Slaichert competed as individuals in the Class 3A Region 4 Golf meet held on Monday, May 23, at Parkersburg.

Frayne was the runner-up at the meet with an 82.  She will advance to compete in the State Golf Meet on May 31-June 1 at Goldwater Links in Ames.

Slaichert did not advance.

Bitter-sweet ending to girls tennis season

The Clear Lake girls tennis team ended its season Thursday, May 19, on a bitter-sweet note.  The doubles teams of Kiersten Baalson and Gretchen Jones and Reagan Brackey and Chloe Mueller placed third and fourth respectively out of 16 teams in Regional competition held in Waverly. Both teams missed out on State Tournament bids, losing by narrow margins to seeded Decorah teams.

The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura girls soccer team split a pair of games last week.

Webster City 3, GHV 0

The Cardinals knew going into Tuesday night’s matchup against Webster City that it was going to be a battle.

“Webster City has improved over the last couple of weeks and they are playing really well,” said Coach Josh Banse.

The Lynx opened the game by scoring two quick goals to take an early lead.  The Cardinals were never able to recover and fell, 3-0.

The Cardinals knew going into Tuesday night’s matchup against Webster City that it was going to be a battle.

“Webster City has improved over the last couple of weeks and they are playing really well,” said Coach Josh Banse.

Clear Lake Walleye Classic results

Jason Dick and Aaron Peterson, of Rockwell, Iowa claimed the title and the $1,00 top prize as winners of the Clear Lake Walleye Classic held last weekend.  The team was the leader through the two-day event, weighing in 16.64 pounds of walleye on day one and 11.39 pounds on day two for a total of 28.03 pounds.

The team also earned an extra $500 for landing the biggest fish on day one, a 5.3 pound lug.
