Clear Lake girls break into rankings at No. 13

The Clear Lake girls basketball team finished out January with their fourth win in a row and broke into the Class 3A rankings for the first time this season at number 13, showing they are peaking at just the right time.  The Lions are now 12-6 on the season.

The Lions started the week with a dominant victory over Iowa Falls-Alden Tuesday, Jan. 26.  Ten three-pointers helped to lift the Lions, 51-39.

Mary Ellen Charest

Mary Ellen  Charest, 85, Clear Lake, died Mon., January 25, 2016, at Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.  A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Fri., Jan. 29 at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake.  Family will greet friends one hour before the service.

Marilyn Broghammer

Marilyn Ann (Muscat) Broghammer, 79, of Clear Lake, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2016, at home surrounded by her family.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Jan. 25 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev. John Gossman, celebrant.  Interment was in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mount Mercy University (c/o Benjamin and Lucille Broghammer Nursing Scholarship Fund), St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, or Hospice of North Iowa.
