Bid awarded in GHV expansion and remodeling project

The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura School Board has awarded the bid for an expansion and remodeling project at its high school building to Larson Contracting, of Lake Mills, Iowa.

Larson submitted the lowest of five bids for the work.  Its base bid was $6,211,500.  With alternatives included by the Board, the Larson bid was about $6.48 million.

Sharen Ann Roenfanz, 66, of Clear Lake, died Thursday, Oct. 22, 2015, at her home.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, 2015, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Ventura, with Pastor Jesse Burns officiating.  Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.

Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. Thursday at the church.

Family suggests memorial contributions to the Sharen Roenfanz Memorial Fund.

Schurtz passed peacefully into history on Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2015, in Aiken, S.C.  A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m., on Saturday, Nov. 7, at St John’s Episcopal Church, 120 1st Street NE, Mason City, Iowa.  A celebration of life will follow from 5-7 p.m. at the MacNider Museum, in Mason City.

Roland Schmidt

Roland F. Schmidt, 92, of Garner, Iowa, died Friday, Oct. 30, 2015, at the Concord Care Center, in Garner.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Nov. 3, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, in Garner, with Fr. Jim Dubert officiating.  Lector was Greg Schmidt.  Music was provided by organist, Mary Kopacek, who accompanied soloist Mary Chambers and the church choir.  Casket bearers were Louis Schmidt, Greg Schmidt, Curt Doble, Tom Hyde, Tim Esbeck and Michael Schmidt.  Burial was in the church cemetery with military rites by the Garner Veterans Ceremonial Unit.
