Marvin “Red” E. Schmidt, 82, most recently of Britt, Iowa, formerly of Ventura, Clear Lake, and a longtime farmer west of Klemme, Iowa, passed away Saturday, Oct. 10, 2015, at Hancock Memorial Hospital, in Britt, Iowa.

One chapter of a bizarre pet adoption case has ended, but another has opened.

Last week a Cerro Gordo County magistrate judge ruled in favor of a Jewell, Iowa man whose dog was confiscated by Patriots for Pets Coordinator Debbie Kern, of Clear Lake.  This week Kern and the Patriots for Pets organization were sued by Justin Deppe, seeking attorney fees and an unspecified amount in punitive damages for pain and suffering.

Acts of kindness add up for students

They received gift certificates from the Half Moon Inn for their actions and are helping to reach a goal of 2,000 acts of kindness by World Kindness Day on Nov.</body></html>

A Belmond man who drove into oncoming traffic near Clear Lake last month has been sentenced to two years in prison.  District Judge Annette Boehlje sentenced Robert Summers Tuesday, Oct. 6.
