Cardinals continue collecting wins

The wins keep collecting for the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura boys.  The team collected two more wins in the North Iowa Conference, moving their record to 7-2 in the conference and 11-3 overall.

The Cardinals traveled to West Hancock on Tuesday, Jan. 15, and had an easy time defeating the Eagles.

Big changes coming for school conferences

 

School conferences are becoming a numbers game.

On the heels of an announcement that Bishop Garrigan intends to leave the North Central Conference (NCC) and join the North Iowa Conference (NIC), Eagle Grove and Clarion-Goldfield are also considering a change which could spell the end of the 88-year-old NCC.

“Everyone is just trying to figure out what is going on and what will make the most sense,” said Dale Ludwig, activities director for Clear Lake Schools.

CL girls pound Lynx, 52-12

 

The Lions notched two more wins in girls basketball action last week.  The girls picked up conference wins on the road at Webster City and Hampton.  The victories pushed the Lions to 4-1 and keep them in contention for a North Central Conference title.  

This week the team is home for a pair of games.  They faced Clarion-Goldfield (1-4 in the NCC) last night and will take on St. Ed’s (4-1) Friday night, Dec. 14.  The only conference loss for St. Ed’s so far

Three volleyball players earn spots on All-North Central Conference Teams

 

Two members of the Clear Lake volleyball team have been named to the All-North Central Conference First Team.  Clear Lake Head Coach Scott Swenson made the announcement Thursday at a banquet for the team and their families.

 

Cardinal teams both take first place at Forest City; 11 earn conference honors

 

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura/West Hancock cross country teams hit the week running, competing in a meet in Forest City on Monday, Oct. 8, and in the North Iowa Conference Meet on Thursday, Oct. 11.

 

Forest City Meet

Both the girls team and the boys team had successful outings at Forest City, with both teams capturing first place.  The boys won with a score of 48, while the girls were crowned champions with a score of 35.

Lion harriers hit mid-season stride

 

The Clear Lake cross country teams are running through the heart of their schedule, competing in two meets last week.  The Lions will participate in four meets over an 11 day stretch.

Humboldt Meet

The Lions ran at the highly competitive Humboldt Meet Monday, Sept. 17.  

Bad luck plagues the Cardinals

 

Friday night’s home opener for the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura football team came down to the wire, but unfortunately, the Cards were not on the winning side as the buzzer sounded.

Lions help lift team to runner-up finish

 

Clear Lake Head Baseball Coach Seth Thompson led the Small School East team, which included two Clear Lake Lions, to a runner-up finish at the 36th Annual All-Star Series played Aug. 2-5 in Clinton, Iowa.  

Clear Lake bats on fire

    Clear Lake’s bats have been as hot as the weather.  The Lions outscored their opponents 47-14 in three wins last week.  They are now 14-3 overall and rated number four in Class 3A this week.

First match-ups tough for CL softball team

    The Clear Lake girls ran into a Class 4A buzz saw in their season opener Monday, May 21.  The Mohawks topped the Lions in three innings, 14-0.
    “They were a very difficult team to play our first game against,” said Coach Nikki Petersburg.  “As the score reflects, our hitters were not prepared to face a pitcher of Lexi Peterson’s caliber.”
