Frankie Avalon will headline the list of artists scheduled to appear at the 2015 Winter Dance Party event scheduled for January 28-31, 2015.

North Shore Drive traffic re-routed

The City of Clear Lake has announced the North Shore Drive Street Reconstruction Project is now underway from 7th Avenue North to Buddy Holly Place, including both intersections.

Traffic to the west of 7th Avenue will be re-routed onto Beach Drive and 7th Avenue.  

Southbound Traffic on Buddy Holly Place will take 7th Avenue North around the project area. 

Mary’s Meals founder challenges students to find their passion-- Do one small thing every day

The power of “kid ingenuity” was ignited Thursday, as Clear Lake Middle and High School students were challenged to consider their passions and think about what they can do.

Magnus McFarlane-Barrow, one of the co-founders of Mary’s Meals, a program that has fed nearly a million children in some of the world’s poorest countries, said he never expected to do the work he has or devoted his life to. The former fish farmer started Mary’s Meals in 2002 during a severe famine in southern Africa.  Today, the program feeds about 920,000 students in 12 countries. 

School Board sticks with KESS despite number changes

 The Clear Lake School Board clarified Monday it spent more than $20,000 with Kelly Educational Staffing Services (KESS), not $12,000 as previously reported, but stuck with its earlier vote to pay KESS to handle substitute teaching assignments this school year.
 “I’m disappointed we didn’t have the numbers-- and we probably should have delayed our vote until we had rock solid numbers. But at this point we are stuck,” said Board member Mark Tesar.

GHV sends 10 events to State Track competition

It was a big week on the blue oval for the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura boys and girls track teams.  The Cardinals qualified 10 events, so there was a lot of action at the State Track meet for GHV fans to watch.

Chase Smith was the highest placing GHV competitor.  Smith placed fifth in the 3200 meter run with a time of 9:45.77.  Another long distance runner, Logan Dahlbeck was 14th in the 1600 meter run with a time of 4:37.00.

CL boys soccer tops Mason City, 4-1

Monday, May 18, was Senior and Parent Night at Lions field for the Clear Lake boys soccer team.  The group put on a show for fans, as they topped Mason City, 4-1.

“We have a talented class of seniors this year and tonight was about recognizing their contributions to the Clear Lake Soccer Program.  This is a fun evening for us, as we typically play several players in positions they seldom have a chance to play during the regular season,” explained Coach Matt Anderson.

Diercks claims third State title; Strong performances all around

Chandler Diercks earned his third State title in the long jump and his Clear Lake teammates turned in a number of strong performances at the Iowa Boys and Girls State Track meet held Thursday through Saturday in Des Moines.

  Clear Lake Coach A.J. Feuerbach said he was thrilled to get eight events and 10 kids back to State for the second year in a row  It was the first time the Lions have qualified four relays for State since 1992.

Rick Lundquist

    Rick L. Lundquist, 62, went to heaven to be with Jesus on Thursday, Nov. 3, 2011 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.  He was very ready to go and went very peacefully surrounded by his loving family and his dog, Fozzie.  Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 7, at Riverside Friends Church, Mason City, Iowa with Pastor Paul Martin officiating.  Interment will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Rick L. Lundquist Memorial Fund in care of the family.  Online
