The Clear Lake volleyball team opened North Central Conference play with an exciting 3-2 victory over Fort Dodge St. Edmond Tuesday, Sept. 13, 3-2.

Cards fold to #5 ranked Lake Mills Bulldogs

The Cards faced a tough opponent when they traveled to Lake Mills on Tuesday, Sept. 13, to take on the undefeated and #5 ranked Bulldogs.

GHV grabbed an early 4-1 lead in the first set, before Lake Mills found their momentum.  After tying it up 8-8, the Bulldogs rolled to an easy 25-11 victory.  The Bulldogs dominated the next two games, 25-10 and 25-12, on their way to the victory.

Sixth ranked (2A) Garner-Hayfield-Ventura (3-0, 1-0) took advantage of Clear Lake (0-3, 0-1) mistakes and rained on the Lions’ Homecoming, 24-14, Friday night.

Clear Lake Head Coach Jared DeVries saw his team out-gain the Cardinals, but lamented miscues on special teams and penalties which repeatedly provided GHV with a short field.

A positive attitude helped the Clear Lake cross country teams to achieve positive results at the Belmond-Klemme Invitational Tuesday, Sept. 6.

“The story of the day was how well the Clear Lake runners handled the adverse weather conditions,” said Coach Nick DiMarco.  “They had a great attitude about the day and didn’t let the heat and humidity interfere with their goal to run the best race possible.”

Bulldogs top Lions in NCC opener

Hampton-Dumont survived a tough test in the opening game, then went on to sweep Clear Lake in the first North Central Conference match of the season for both teams.  The Bulldogs (3-4) topped the Lions, 28-26, 25-10, 25-13.
