Ada Mae Hill, 75, of Clear Lake, died Friday, Sept. 16, 2016, at the Muse Norris Inpatient Unit- Hospice of North Iowa, in Mason City, Iowa, surrounded by her family.

A graveside service was held on Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2016, at the Clear Lake Cemetery.  A gathering for Ada and her son, Tim, was held at Ward-Van-Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, following the graveside service.

Laurel Jean Fandel, 93, of 620 Briarstone Dr., Mason City, Iowa, died Thursday, Sept. 8, 2016, at the Muse Norris Impatient Unit, Hospice of North Iowa, in Mason City.

A memorial service was held on Monday, Sept. 12, at Epiphany Parish-Holy Family Catholic Church, Mason City, with the Rev. Andrew A-Mensah officiating.  Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.

Boys injured in truck rollover

Only one bid-- 32 percent higher than expected, received for brick paver project

The Clear Lake City Council rejected the lone bid for its Main Avenue Sidewalk Replacement Project Monday night.

Dean Snyder Construction, of Clear Lake, was the only contractors to submit a bid for the work, which was to begin this fall.  The business’ bid of $794,243, was 32-percent higher than the engineer’s estimated cost of the project of $601,890.
