A tribute to October

If I had to choose one month as my favorite, I’d have to pick the month of October – every single time; hands down.  Fall colors reach their peak during October, and the early autumn weather seems to agree with everyone.  Generally speaking, the mornings are crisp and cool.  Afternoons warm and sunny.

Clear Lake’s Ryan Becker is taking his fishing to a whole new level.  The 28-year-old fisherman will compete in the Professional Musky Tournament Trail World Championship at Lake Miltona, Minn. Oct. 22-23 with partner Travis Nielsen, of Winnebago, Minn.

Services set for former police chief, City Councilman Nels Larsen

Clear Lake City Administrator Scott Flory announced Tuesday morning that City Hall will be closed Wednesday, Oct. 12, from 1:30 to 3 p.m., so employees can attend the funeral services for former City Councilman Nels Larsen.

The 92-year old Larsen died Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2016, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa. Larsen served on the Clear Lake City Council,  representing Ward 3 for 16 consecutive years, from 1988-2003. He retired from the Council in 2003.

AEA 267 will change name to Central Rivers

Citing a desire to present a more unified image and take advantage of timing, the AEA 267 board of directors made a decision during their Oct. 5 meeting to change the agency’s name from Area Education Agency 267 to Central Rivers Area Education Agency.
