Lions named to INA All-State Baseball teams

The Iowa Newspaper Association announced its 2016 All-State Baseball selections Tuesday, Aug. 2, selecting first, second, third teams and team captains for classes 1A, 2A, 3A and 4A.

The four seniors selected as team captains are: 4A – Spencer Van Scoyoc, Cedar Rapids, Jefferson; 3A – Grant Judkins, Pella; 2A – Javin Drake, Wilton and 1A – Brady Harpenau, St. Mary’s, Remsen.

CL girls have three named to NCC teams

Four members of the Clear Lake girls softball team have received All-North Central Conference honors.

Outfielders Sara Faber and Macy Mixdorf, along with infielder Julia Merfeld, were named to the Second Team.  Catcher Erin O’Tool was a third team selection.

The Clear Lake Lions captured their second straight Class 2A State title and their third title in four years with an 8-1 win over Kuemper of Carroll on Saturday, July 30, at Principal Park in Des Moines.  Clear Lake became the 20th school in Iowa to win three or more State Championships in summer State Tournament history.  Look on our sports pages and congratulations section for more photos and stories about the State Champion Lions! -Reporter photo by Chris Barragy

Drawing for Renaissance tickets will be Friday

The Clear Lake Mirror-Reporter is giving away tickets to the 2016 Minnesota Renaissance Festival over the next few weeks.

In response to demand for the tickets, this week correct answers to our contest will be accepted in person and through the mail, with a deadline of 3 p.m. Friday.   A drawing will be held Friday and the first four correct entries will each receive two tickets. Winners will be contacted.
