Lions wrestlers place third at home Invitational

The Clear Lake wrestling team had a busy week at home coming off of the Christmas break.  The team posted a conference win over Humboldt, then hosted an eight-team tournament, finishing third.

Back-to-back losses for Clear Lake boys

Back-to-back games resulted in back-to-back losses for the Clear Lake boys last week.  Webster City and Forest City put the Lions’ losing streak at five and their record at 4-6 overall and 3-2 in the North Central Conference.

Webster City 67, CL 59

Undefeated Webster City got off to a fast start against the Lions Friday, Jan. 8, then held on for a 67-59 NCC win.

The Lions trailed by seven points, 17-10 after the first quarter, but managed to play even with the Lynx in the second for a 22-15 halftime score.

Four GHV wrestlers have perfect nights

The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura wrestling team hosted a quadrangular on Thursday, Jan. 7.  Teams participating included Lake Mills, North Union and West Bend-Mallard.

Lake Mills won the meet by going 3-0.  GHV fell to the Bulldogs, 48-28, but topped North Union, 66-6 and West Bend-Mallard, 54-27.

Poor shooting doomed the Garner-Hayfield-Ventura girls on Friday, Jan. 8, when they hosted North Union (5-3, 8-3).

“We shot the ball terrible from both the field and the free throw line,” said Coach Matt Erpelding.  “We got numerous open looks from the perimeter, but simply couldn’t knock them down.  Half of our field goal attempts came from the three-point line, which isn’t what you would like.”
