GHV X-C teams compete at Ballard

The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura boys cross country team earned runner-up honors at the Ballard meet on Monday, Sept. 14, while the girls team finished sixth.

The boys were only three points away from the winner of the meet, Nodaway Valley, who finished with 71 points.  Eagle Grove was third with 87 points.  Eleven teams competed in the meet.

The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura volleyball team had a tough week on the court.  The Cardinals dropped two games.

When the Lake Mills volleyball team comes to town, a tough night is guaranteed.  The number eight rated Bulldogs (16-0) did not disappoint, as they trounced GHV in all three matches by scores of 25-12, 25-15 and 25-9.

Two of three races for spots on the Clear Lake City Council will be contested in the November election.

A flurry of filing before the Thursday, Sept. 17, deadline resulted with head-to-head battles for the First Ward, Third Ward and At-Large positions on the Council.  However, one candidate has since withdrawn his name.

Fiber optic project will speed up Internet for businesses

Most of Clear Lake’s businesses and industries will soon have access to high speed Gigabit Internet service because of an extensive fiber optic network project this fall.

“This is the high speed Internet service that businesses across the nation are craving,” said CL Tel General Manager Tom Lovell.  “It provides the competitive edge that our local businesses need and is an important key to recruiting new industry.”

Fire at Culver’s

The Clear Lake Fire Department was dispatched to Culver’s, 1204 N. 25th St., at 11:44 a.m. Saturday. A fire in the kitchen was contained to just the fryers.  No damage estimates were reported on the building or kitchen area.  The restaurant had to be closed while it awaited new frying equipment.  It re-opened Monday. The  CLFD was on the scene for a little over an hour.-Reporter photo by Chris Barragy.
