City gives VFW okay to develop plan for veterans memorial

Concept for former water tower site will be created

The Clear Lake City Council, on a 4-1 vote, has given its approval for V.F.W. Post 4868 leaders to explore design ideas to locate a veterans memorial at the former downtown water tower site.

The curtain appears to be falling on Kitchen Sink Productions at the Clear Lake Arts Center.  However, local performers say they are ready to take their talents in a new direction.

Clear Lake Arts Center Executive Director Paula Hanus confirmed The Kitchen Sink drama group is spinning off from the Arts Center.  The Arts Center Board met Thursday and discussed the internal program.

The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura Cardinals (3-0) could do no wrong Friday night, as they put a boot – or three – to the Forest City Indians (0-3) in Class 2A District 2 play. Three Cardinals rushed for over 100 yards, while the defense held its opponent to -25 yards on the ground in the 38-6 win.

Charles City and Mason City provided some stiff competition for the Clear Lake volleyball team Thursday.Perennial power Charles City, currently ranked eighth in Class 4A, blanked the Lions, 3-0, but the team played a much closer match with Mason City before falling, 2-3.
