Antique boats on display in 1990

A large crowd was treated to a display of vintage wood boats in 1990.  The boats were part of the fifth annual Invitational Antique Wood Boat Show.  Wood boats from sailboats to racing boats were competing.  Winners from Clear Lake included Gale Goranson, Best Wood Cruiser, 27-foot 1960 Chris Craft; and Randy Cram, Best Non-Powered Wood Boat, 16-foot, 1929 Alexandria Boat Works rowing skiff.

The concept of merging the staffs of the Clear Lake Area Chamber of Commerce and Clear Lake Business and Industrial Development Corporation was passed by boards of each group.  In other news, Sharon May, executive vice president of the Clear Lake Area Chamber of Commerce, submitted her resignation to the Chamber effective Aug. 1.

The level of Clear Lake, as measured on Tuesday, July 10, was 43.68” below the spillway.

Riots which erupted in nearly a dozen resort areas in the Midwest failed to materialize in Clear Lake, as 65,000 enjoyed the holiday weekend.  The city took no chances and called in over 100 National Guardsmen, after 500 rioting youths tore up Arnolds Park, 100 miles to the west of here.

The Anton Larson stand on the North Shore of Clear Lake was held up at 11:30 p.m. Wednesday.  At that time two men with white handkerchiefs over their faces entered the stand, each having guns in their hands, but saying nothing.  Mr. Larson was in front of the stand as they entered.  Apparently the holdup men were scared out when Mrs.

100 Years Ago June 1915

A severe storm passed through Clear Lake and its vicinity.  A black cloud gathered and rapidly deposited a downpour of rain and considerable hail.  The wind also did damage.  Jake Sawyer lost three head of cattle that were in a pasture and were struck by lightening.
