The city’s commitment to maintaining and improving its infrastructure was on display at Monday night’s Clear Lake City Council meeting.  The group took action on six projects representing millions of dollars of investment.

Clear Lake man sentenced to 15 years on drug dealer conviction

        Two men have been sentenced to federal prison for their roles in a Mason City area methamphetamine distribution conspiracy.

        Shawn Benedict Zimmerman, 42, of Clear Lake, received his prison term after an April 20, 2015, guilty plea and Shane Lester McRoberts, age 28, of Nora Springs, Iowa, received his prison term after an April 16, 2015, guilty plea.  Zimmerman and McRoberts each pled guilty to conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine.

Highway 18 workWe are two-weeks into a major Highway 18 resurfacing project through Clear Lake.  The highway will remain open during the project, but most areas will be reduced to one lane in each direction, starting at the 1400 block of the highway, to just east of the North 20th Street intersection.

Ventura will make shift to ‘smart’ water meter use

Ventura city officials are readying the community for mandatory replacement of all water meters.

According to City Clerk Else Taylor, installation of new meters will begin in mid-August.  The installation is mandatory to continue receiving water service.  There is no cost for the installation of the new meter, however, there may be residual costs involved with faulty shut-off valves inside the home.

Antique boats on display in 1990

A large crowd was treated to a display of vintage wood boats in 1990.  The boats were part of the fifth annual Invitational Antique Wood Boat Show.  Wood boats from sailboats to racing boats were competing.  Winners from Clear Lake included Gale Goranson, Best Wood Cruiser, 27-foot 1960 Chris Craft; and Randy Cram, Best Non-Powered Wood Boat, 16-foot, 1929 Alexandria Boat Works rowing skiff.
