Win streak continues for CL girls team

The Clear Lake girls are on a roll.  After starting the season 0-2, the Lions are now 5-2.  The win streak went to five after topping Algona Garrigan and Clarion-Goldfield last week.

    The Lions had a good road test Tuesday, Dec. 13, at Algona Garrigan.

Cardinals fall to Forest City in second round of Class 2A action

 

 

The entire game was an uphill battle for the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura boys basketball team when they faced Forest City on Thursday, Feb. 14, in the second round of the Class 2A District Basketball Tournament.  The Cardinals had a bye in the first round.

“We knew we had our hands full playing Forest City,” said Coach Joe Albertson.  “They have a number of consistent shooters from deep and a couple of active posts.”

Wrestlers wrap up regular season with close win over Algona

 

The Clear Lake wrestling team finished its regular season Thursday night with a 36-33 win over Algona.  The victory lifted the Lions’ record to 5-3 in the North Central Conference and 15-15 over all. 

“That is a very good regular season with the schedule we wrestled,” said Coach Gary Weber.  “This team beat ranked teams in, Emmetsburg, Osage, Denver-Tripoli and Fort Dodge St.Edmonds.  We 

upped the strength of our schedule and our staff believes it will pay dividends at Sectionals.”

Humboldt, Webster City drop CL grapplers in close duals

 

The Clear Lake wrestling team traveled to Humboldt Thursday night, Jan. 3, to take on Humboldt and Webster City in North Central Conference wrestling. The Lions came out on the short end of the stick in both duals, losing 34-25 to Humboldt and 39-25 to Webster City. 

“Humboldt is 14-0 and ranked in state, so we did not do that bad, but we still expect to win,” said Coach Gary Weber. 

The  Lions trailed 28-25 heading into the last match, with a chance to win the dual, but were pinned leaving the final score 34-25. 

Cardinals top West Hancock; fall to Belmond-Klemme

Despite a poor start, the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura boys battled back to capture a solid win against West Hancock on Tuesday, Dec. 4.

Cardinals land 12 on All-District lists

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura football team finished their Class 2A, District 2 season with a record of 7-4, and had 12 players receive All-District honors. 

Lions go 4-2 at Algona Volleyball Tournament

 

The Lions dropped a 3-1 match with Humboldt Tuesday, but responded to the loss with renewed spirit and went 4-2 at Saturday’s Algona Tournament.

The Lions edged the Wildcats 25-23 in game one, but fell off their usual aggressive game and dropped the next three by scores of 25-13, 25-22, 25-18.   The loss put the Lions at 5-3 in North Central Conference play.  The team was slated to play their final home match of the regular season Tuesday, Oct. 16, against Webster City.

Girls add a win over Garrigan

The Clear Lake volleyball team blasted visiting Bishop Garrigan in a home match played Thursday, Sept. 20.  The Lions powered past the Golden Bears 25-10, 25-19, 25-10.

Both teams claim top honors for G-H/V cross country

 

It was a very successful day for both the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura/West Hancock boys and girls cross country teams.  Both teams brought home championships from the Belmond-Klemme meet held Tuesday, Sept. 4.

“I thought our runners have done a good job with the extreme heat conditions that we have been running in lately,” said Coach Jeff Short.  “I am looking forward to seeing our times when the conditions get back in the 

Three CL baseball players receive post season honors from Coaches Association

Three Clear Lake athletes have received honors from the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association.

Ozzie Adams was named to the Association’s Super Team.  Adams batted .492 this season.  He finished with 63 

hits, including five home runs, two triples and 24 doubles.  He had 40 RBIs, lifting his slugging percentage to .828.  When not pitching for the Lions, Adams played shortstop and posted a fielding percentage of .916.
