GHV girls struggle through a tough week

Last week wasn’t what the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura girls were hoping for, as they dropped two contests to move their record to 13-6 in the North Iowa Conference and 14-7 overall.

CL grapplers face tough competition

The Clear Lake wrestling team had another very busy week with seven dual meets.  The Lions only won two of those meets, but the competition the  was very stiff.  Tuesday, Clear Lake defeated Denver, 42-22, and Ft. Dodge St.

Clear Lake wrestlers go 2-0 in NCC duals

The Clear Lake wrestling team picked up two big wins Thursday night, Dec. 18, against Hampton and Algona.  The victories put the Lions in second place in North Central Conference at 3-1, one meet behind second rated Clarion. 

“I thought we wrestled pretty well.   It is nice to see TJ Hauser healthy again and back in our line up. He will make us tough,” said Clear Lake Coach Gary Weber.  “Christiano Gonzalez also made his debut at 132-pounds, which added some punch to the line up.”

Cardinal girls pound Eagle Grove, 61-37

It wasn’t much of a fight for the Garner-Hayfield-Ventura girls basketball team when they traveled to Eagle Grove on Tuesday, Nov. 25.  The Cardinals powered their way to a 61-37 victory over the host team.

The game was tight in the first quarter, with GHV managing to gain a lead, but then Eagle Grove would sneak back in.  At one point the Cardinals managed a 14-8 lead, but the Eagles closed the gap to 14-11.  The first quarter ended with Mackenzie Van Gerpen connecting on a two-point shot to end the period, 19-11.

Cardinals fall in opening round of Regional play

It was a disappointing night for the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura volleyball team on Monday, Oct. 27, as they fell to Estherville-Lincoln Central in the first round of regional play.

Humboldt defeats Clear Lake in NCC volleyball

Humboldt shut out Clear Lake last week in North Central Conference volleyball action. The Lions fell Thursday by scores of  25-18, 25-23, 25-17.

Clear Lake and Ventura School Boards were scheduled to participate in a joint meeting Tuesday evening, Aug. 23, at Area Education Agency 267.

Terry Unsworth has announced his plan to seek election to the remaining two-year term of the at-large City Council position he currently holds.

All Vet’s center is newest ornament

    The Clear Lake Area Chamber of Commerce has announced the next ornament in its collectible ornament series will feature the All-Vets Social Center.  The ornament, which will sell for $19, is expected to be available for purchase in late July from the Chamber, 205 Main Ave.
    The ornament is the 13th in the series of collectible historical ornaments which are limited to the year of production.
