Area runners had an impressive showing at the 2A State Cross Country meet held at Lakeside Municipal Golf Course on Saturday, Oct. 31, in Fort Dodge, Iowa. The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura boys team placed fourth overall, while solo runners, Tanner Storbeck and Gretchen Jones, from Clear Lake also placed well.

Alliant Energy customers set new mark for energy use; Demand tops peak level set in 2003

 

    Interstate Power and Light Company, an Alliant Energy company, set an electric peak for customers in its west region, which includes Iowa and Minnesota. This group set a new record peak of 3,701 megawatts at 6 p.m. Monday, July 18.

School Board approves sharing agreements

The Clear Lake School Board gave its approval Monday to a 28-E agreement with the Mason City Community School District to continue a sharing agreement for the services of Superintendent of Schools Anita Micich.  This will be the second year of the agreement.
    The one year agreement stipulates a 60/40 split between the Mason City and Clear Lake districts for salary and benefits.  It keeps Micich’s salary at $177,500.  Clear Lake’s portion of that is $71,000; Mason City’s portion of the salary is $106,500.

CL and GHV compete in Regional Golf Meet

It was a cold and blustery day for a Regional Golf Meet, but the Clear Lake and Garner-Hayfield/Ventura girls put the brutal conditions behind them and gave it their all.  The Region 1B tournament was played on Monday, May 18, at Clarmond Country Club in Clarion.

Clarion-Goldfield/Dows won the meet with a score of 368.  GHV followed with a 391 and Clear Lake was third, carding a 433.  CGD and GHV will advance to play in the Regional Final Golf Meet in Pocahontas on Tuesday, May 26.

GHV boys wins home meet

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura boys track team had a week of ups and downs.  After placing first at their home track meet, the Cardinals finished third in the Adam Sundall Relays held at Bishop Garrigan.

GHV Meet

It was a fun victory lap for the GHV boys track team.  They circled their home oval after winning the 2015 Don Hoppel Co-ed Relays on Monday, May 4.  GHV took top honors in the nine-team field with 122 points, followed by Clear Lake with 105.  Forest City was third with 90 points.

GHV girls win home quadrangular

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura girls golf team picked up two wins and dropped one dual meet in action this week.

Eagle Grove 213, GHV 218

On Monday, April 27, the girls had a rough night and came up four strokes short as they lost to Eagle Grove. The Eagles finished with 213, while the Cardinals had 218.

GHV girls on the run at three meets

Competing in three track meets in one week has its advantages and disadvantages, admitted Garner-Hayfield/Ventura girls track coach Dyan Childress.  She said the experience is good, but by the end of the week the girls are super tired.

Clarion Meet

Despite not scoring a lot of team points, the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura girls track team found cause to hold their heads high and find victories where they could at the Clarion Meet held on Tuesday, April 14.
