Larson Manufacturing announces Clear Lake facility will close

     Larson Manufacturing, located in Clear Lake, made the announcement on Tuesday, Nov. 8, that they will be consolidating Clear Lake’s plant into the Lake Mills operation.  Due to the consolidation, 68 employees at the Clear Lake facility will lose their jobs.

    The Federal Communications Commission is scheduled to meet Oct. 27 to act on the new rules, which will significantly impact rural Iowans.  Local telephone and Internet providers fear the new rules will hurt their ability to serve rural areas by redirecting their funding, which could lead to sharp price increases, degraded service and a larger digital divide.

No contested races for City Council seats

There will be no suspense associated with local elections in November.  
    Clear Lake and Ventura city clerks report races in each community will have just one candidate.

Club’s event keeps getting bigger, better

 

This weekend the C.L.A.S.S. Car Club presents its 28th annual Summer Cruise, Dance and Car Show by the lake.  The event is the largest car show between Des Moines and Minneapolis.

“It is always a great time.  Last year over 700 cars cruised around the lake on Friday evening and over 425 cars were at the show on Saturday,” said Jerry Young, C.L.A.S.S. president.

Distinguished CLHS alumni announced

    Six Clear Lake High School alums will be honored as the “2012 Class of Distinguished Alumni” at the 2nd Annual All Class Reunion in September.
    The Clear Lake Community School Foundation, CLHS Alumni Association and Historical Society has chosen these CLHS graduates to be honored:

School Board hires new high school principal

    The Clear Lake School Board welcomed a new administrator Monday night.  The Board approved the hiring of Chris Murphy as its new high school principal.
    Murphy, 36, is currently employed as a school improvement leader in the Des Moines Public School System.  He has held that position for six years.  Murphy’s experience also includes serving as dean of students for a high school alternative school and middle school.

Two-year agreement reached for CL teachers

Re-design of salary schedule results 4.4% package increase

    The Clear Lake Board of Education approved a tentative agreement with the Clear Lake Education Association for a master working agreement for the 2012-2014 school years Monday night.  The CLEA membership had approved the agreement, which provides a 4.41 total package increase, prior to the board action.
    The contract was reached after a redesign of the salary schedule aimed at attracting quality new teachers and recognizing those who pursue National Board Certification.

Family escapes mobile home fire

   The Clear Lake Fire department responded to a fire in a mobile home residence at 2400 South Shore Drive, Lot 104, Saturday at 2:15 p.m.
