Great Lakes chosen as new carrier by Mason City Airport

     Great Lakes Aviation will soon serve the Mason City Municipal Airport.  The Mason City Airport Commissioners recommended Great Lakes unanimously at a meeting held Monday evening.
    “Great Lakes is the best choice for Mason City,” said Airport Manager Pam Osgood.  “We are expecting this to be a smooth transition.”

Absentee ballots ready for Nov. 8 City Election

    Absentee ballots are now available for all cities in Cerro Gordo County for the Nov. 8,  Regular City Election.
     An eligible and registered voter may vote an absentee ballot in person at the office of the county auditor, or may submit a written request for an absentee ballot to be mailed to the voter.  A written request must include the voter’s name, date of birth, registration address, signature, and the name of the election (regular city election) or date of the election (Nov. 8, 2011).

CLHS teacher inspired students

    A Clear Lake High School teacher is being remembered as a passionate professional with an unwavering resolve to prepare students for life.
    Funeral services will be held Thursday, Sept. 22, for Blake Lobdell, a 25-year science/physics teacher and coach at CLHS. Lobdell, died unexpectedly Sunday.  He was 50.

Council tables decision on public access parking

 

The Clear Lake City Council has tabled a decision on whether to allow vehicle parking on the north side of the public access at 16th Avenue South.

Gary Laabs, owner of the South Shore Inn and The Landing at 1603 South Shore Drive, had asked the city to allow

 vehicle parking on the public approach which is adjacent to his building.  

School Board turns down church request to use auditorium

Group encouraged to consider Sunset School

    The Clear Lake School Board turned down a request Monday from the newly established Harvest Bible Chapel to conduct its Sunday services in E.B. Stillman Auditorium.
    The board unanimously voted against the request, saying it had concerns about the year-long contract and use of some Middle School classrooms the church was seeking.  The auditorium is situated between the high school and middle school buildings.

New executive director begins quest to meet membership, expand value of Chamber

    It’s been a whirlwind six weeks for Tim Coffey, the new executive director of the Clear Lake Area Chamber of Commerce. 
    Since stepping into the leadership position at the Chamber, Coffey says he has been on the fast track learning about the vast number of Chamber programs and projects, as well as sharing his experience and expectations with staff and members.

City OKs third phase of Pine Brooke Subdivision

    The Clear Lake City Council gave its approval Monday to the third addition of the Pine Brooke Residential Subdivision, located just north of 10th Avenue North.  Work is expected to begin soon to develop twin homes on nine lots. 
    The third and final phase of the subdivision represents a successful venture between the City of Clear Lake and Developer Tim Stenberg, of Joshua, Inc.    

Great Lakes starts service to MC Airport today

    Great Lakes Airlines begins service at the Mason City Municipal Airport today (Wednesday, April 11) replacing Delta Airlines which is discontinuing service to Mason City.

Upmeyer, Bartz file for re-election

House Majority Leader Linda Upmeyer filed for election in House District 54 on Wednesday.
    House District 54 includes portions of Cerro Gordo, including Clear Lake, and Butler counties and all of Franklin County.
    Upmeyer said in July that she would move to the Clear Lake area, since her district (House District 12) was realigned after redistricting.  She is seeking her sixth term in the house.

City approves contract with police, Teamsters

    The City Council voted unanimously Monday to approve a three-year collective bargaining agreement between the City of Clear Lake and the Clear Lake Police Department and Teamsters Local #238.
