Franc D. Beach

Franc D. Beach, 76, of Clear Lake, died Friday, Feb. 13, 2015, at the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, Mason City, Iowa.

A celebration of Franc’s life will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2015, at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, Iowa.  Family will greet friends from 2-4 p.m.  

Francis Davis Beach was born May 5, 1938, in St. Peter, Minn., the son of Jay and Hazel (Davis) Beach.  He graduated from St. Peter High School, St. Peter, in 1956.

Amy E. Hild

Amy Elizabeth Hild, 27, 1390 Rocky Place, Rockford, Iowa, died Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2015, in a car accident. Amy gave in death as she gave in life as a tissue donor. 

A celebration of life was held on Monday, March 2, 2015, at Harvest Bible Chapel, Clear Lake, with Pastor John Tank officiating.  Burial was at the Clear Lake Cemetery.  Memorials may be given to the Amy E. Hild Memorial Fund.  

Robert W. Wells

Robert Wayne Wells, 89, 405 27th Ave. S., Clear Lake, died Monday, Feb. 23, 2015, at the Mercy Medical Center of North Iowa, Mason City.

     A celebration of life party for friends and family was held on Saturday, Feb. 28, 2015, at Apple Valley Assisted Living, 405 27th Ave. S., Clear Lake.  According to his wishes his body has been cremated after the family had a private viewing

Kay L. Peterson-Sobek

    Kay L. Peterson-Sobek, age 63, most recently a resident of Klemme, Iowa, formerly of Clear Lake, and Marshall, Minn., died, Friday, Feb. 27, 2015, at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient, Mason City, following a short battle with cancer.  Services will be held on Friday, March 6, 2015, at 2 p.m., at the Andrews Funeral Home, 528 East Main Street, Klemme.  Friends may call from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the services at the funeral home on Friday.

Fire destroys shed owned by local contractor

Clear Lake and Ventura Fire Departments responded to a building fire in rural Clear Lake Monday morning.  The building, owned by Meints Construction, was a total loss.

 

Crews were on the scene for more than two hours extinguishing the blaze.

MC School Board must vote on issue again

The Mason City School Board has been advised it should re-vote on that district’s sharing agreement with the Clear Lake School District. 

Monday night, the attorney for the Mason City School Board told the group its 3-3 vote in December to discontinue the 60:40 sharing 

Woman killed in six vehicle crash on Avenue of the Saints

Twenty-seven-year-old Amy Hild was killed Wednesday morning, Feb. 25, in a six vehicle accident on the Avenue of the Saints.  Hild, a 2005 Clear Lake High School graduate, was a resident of rural Rockford, Iowa and was traveling home from a meeting in Mason City at the time of the accident.

Officials report Hild was eastbound on US Highway 18 at the 193 mile marker near the Warbler Avenue overpass, east of Mason City, when a semi hit the back of her car as part of a chain-reaction crash. 

State bound: Clear Lake girls head to Des Moines with support of community behind them

The Clear Lake girls were reminded of the strong support they’ll have at the State Basketball Tournament this week at a special send-off Monday evening. 

 

GHV girls have three named to NIC teams

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura girls basketball team had three girls named to All Conference Teams in the North Iowa Conference.  Emily Spilman was named First Team.  Hannah Lau was named to the Second Team, while  Mackenzie Haag earned Honorable Mention recognition.
