Monthly Outdoor Warning Siren testing begins Monday, April 6

The Clear Lake Police Department has released the dates for testing the Clear Lake Outdoor Warning Sirens in 2015.  The first test will be this Monday, April 6, at noon.

When the sirens are activated, they will be sounded for a period of one minute.  Any activated outside of the dates and times listed below means that the sirens have been activated due to weather.

Men accused of cheating to win Clear Lake fishing tourney plead not guilty

Two North Central Iowa men accused of cheating in a Clear Lake fishing tournament in February have filed pleas of not guilty. 

Aaron Lauber, 23, of Clear Lake, and Jason Schuttler, 25, of Manly, were charged by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources for 

cheating during a state-sponsored fishing tournament at Clear Lake on Feb. 8.  DNR officials say they received a tip that some of the fish were caught outside the tournament’s hours of 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Mary Jane Garrison, 67 of Clear Lake, died Friday, March 20, 2015, at Nora Springs Care Center.

Kathleen Pederson

Kathleen Pederson, age 69, of Dumont, formerly of Opportunity Village in Clear Lake, died Tuesday, March 17, 2015, at the Dumont Wellness Center.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 28, 2015, at Bethel Lutheran Church, rural Vinje, Iowa, with Pastor Spering Scott officiating.  Inurnment will take place at Bethel Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation with her family will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.

Gary D. Hughes

Gary Dale Hughes, 78, of Franklin, Tenn., died Wednesday March 18, 2015. 

Graveside services will be held on Friday, March 27, 2015 at the Nashville National Cemetery, where full Military Honors will be given. Memorials can be given to Avalon Hospice of Tennessee.

Gary was born, Jan. 31,1937, in Belmond, Iowa to Weston “Doc” and Ada Marie (Shahan) Hughes.  Gary joined the United States Air Force in 1954, where he served for 21 years and retired in June 1975.

Catherine S. Alcorn

Catherine S. Alcorn, 64, of Mason City, died Sunday, March 22, 2015 at the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 26, at Epiphany Parish St. Joseph Catholic Church, 302 5th St. S.E., 

Mason City.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, March 25, at Hogan-Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St. N.E., Mason City, with a scriptural wake at 6:30 p.m.
