Gwendolyn G. Schaer began her heavenly life on April 4, 2015, at the Muse - Norris Inpatient Hospice Unit at the age of 87.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., on Wednesday, April 8, 2015, at Faith Baptist Church, 1807 S. Kentucky Ave., Mason City, Iowa, with Pastor Scott Onofrio officiating.  Burial will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City.

Memorial contributions can be directed to the family, Hospice of North Iowa, or Faith Baptist Church in Mason City.

Council transfers agreement to McKesson

The Clear Lake City Council unanimously approved reassigning the development agreement for the McKesson warehouse project during its regular meeting Monday night.

The action comes more than a year after the city entered into a development agreement with Windmill Realty LLC for the construction of a 340,000  square foot regional warehouse and distribution center in the Larry Luker Memorial Industrial Park.

Second Annual Wag Walk to benefit soon-to-open dog park is May 2

Mark your calendars for the second annual (2K-5K) six-legged Wag Walk fundraiser to be held on Sunday, May 2, starting at noon. The event will start and end at City Park.  No registration will be needed.  A free will donation will be participants’ entry into the walk.

Food pantry for Clear Lake, Ventura residents opens today

A food pantry for those in need will open today (Wednesday, April 8).  The United Methodist Church, 508 2nd Ave. N., is the temporary home for the new community resource.

Lions claims top honors at Forest City Relays

The Clear Lake boys track team showed North Iowa it is a force to be reckoned with this spring.  The Lion varsity claimed first place at the Forest City Relays, while the junior varsity was runner-up in its division.

“I was so proud of all the kids’ efforts, grades nine to 12, to come out and get a first varsity and a second place for the JV.  It really could get us the confidence and excitement to have one of the greatest years for Clear Lake track.  We will see, but it is definitely a great beginning,” said Coach A.J. Feuerbach.

Girls tennis team tops St. Ed’s in season opener

The Clear Lake girls tennis team opened the season with an 8-1 victory over St. Ed’s on April 2.

With the exception of a very close number one singles match, in which Lindsey 

Loudenburg was defeated, 11-10, by 2014 state qualifier Lily Peterson, the Lions dominated.

CL boys soccer team is ranked third in IHSSCA Class 1A

The Clear Lake boys soccer team, which made it all the way to the State semi-finals last season, is ranked third in the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association’s pre-season rankings for Class 1A.  

Doebel continues winning ways

Brennen Doebel, a senior wrestler on the Clear Lake High School team, was invited to participate in the Annual North/South All Star Meet, held on March 28, in Charles City, Iowa.  The top seniors wrestlers in the state are invited to the meet.

Doebel faced State Champion Tristan Birt, of Dubuque Wahlert, and defeated him, 4-0.

Cardinals top CAL in boys soccer showdown

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura boys soccer team kicked the season off on a winning note, capturing a 4-1 victory over CAL Community Monday night, April 6.

“I was really impressed with the boys, as they played very physical and aggressive,” said Coach Eric Williams.  “It’s also great to see the young guys step up and play hard and also to see the senior leadership we have by setting the younger players up to succeed.”

The Cardinals are starting three freshman and three more are playing key roles off the bench.
