The wrestling battle was on in Waterloo

The Clear Lake wrestling team traveled to Waterloo before the holiday break to compete in the 32-team Battle of Waterloo.  The tournament is only open to the top 32 teams that the committee chooses; the best teams in the state in all three classes are invited.

The Lions finished in the top half of the tourney after upsetting a very good Cedar Falls team, 41-24, on Friday.  They then ran into the top seed, Cedar Rapids Prairie, and were beaten, 50-15.

Team effort leads to Cardinal victory

Monday night’s victory at North Iowa for the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura girls basketball team was a team effort.  When you can beat a team by 25 points, a lot of girls get to see action.

“The starters played very few minutes with each other and no matter what combination of girls we had on the floor, they all played well together,” said Coach Matt Erpelding.

Ninth ranked W-SR defeats CL girls

Ninth ranked (4A) Waverly-Shell Rock used a big second quarter to defeat the Clear Lake girls, 56-42, in a game played Saturday, Dec. 20.  The loss put the Lions’ record a 4-3 heading into the holiday break.
