 Linda J. Clark, 68, of Mason City, passed away on Wednesday, July 30, 2014, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City with her loving family by her side.
 A funeral service was held on Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2014, at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St. N.E., Mason City, with Pastor Ed Bard officiating. Committal services followed in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.

Three Lions named INA All-State selections

The Iowa Newspaper Association announced its 2014 All-State Baseball selections Tuesday, selecting first, second, third teams and team captains for classes 1A, 2A, 3A and 4A.
 Three Clear Lake players received All-State recognition.

Clear Lake well represented on NCC All-Conference and Class 3A All-District teams

Clear Lake is well represented on the All North Central Conference and Class 3A All-District baseball teams announced this week.

 The Lions, who finished as runner-up in the NCC with a 15-3 record (30-5 overall), landed four players on the First Team All-NCC list.
 Brock Adams was a unanimous choice as a First Team pitcher, while Pete Swenson was selected as an infielder and Mitch Keeran and Devin Uhlenhopp were both named First Team outfielders.

Area dancers claim National Championships

A competition dance team consisting of students from the North Iowa area recently traveled to St. Louis, Mo., June 13-15, to attained TOP Dance Nationals.

 The team competed in Hip Hop, Lyrical, Tap, Jazz, Contemporary and Solo/Duets.
 The team walked away with all superior top 10 rankings and three national titles.

Three Cardinals earn spots on the NIC All-Conference lists

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura baseball team had three players named to the North Iowa Conference All-Conference lists. Seniors Josh Theobald and Braden Meints were named NIC First Team, while fellow senior Spencer Shaw was named to the NIC Second Team. Cade Baker, a sophomore, earned Honorable Mention recognition.

Ten injured when boat crashes into dock early Sunday

 Ten people were injured, and four taken to the hospital, after a boat struck a public dock on Clear Lake’s south shore early Sunday morning, Aug. 3.

Head-on accident sends three to hospital

 A head-on collision between an SUV and mid-sized sedan on Highway 18 West Tuesday sent three persons to the hospital.

School Board expected to re-visit contract for substitute services

The Clear Lake School Board is expected to revisit its decision to contract with Kelly Educational Staffing Services (KESS)  to handle substitute staffing for the school district in light of new information.  

City Council follows P&R Board recommendation

Veterans Memorial at Sea Wall turned down; task force will study options

The Clear Lake City Council, on a 3-2 vote Monday night, agreed with a recommendation from its Parks and Recreation Advisory Board not to allow a proposed veteran’s memorial to be placed at the Sea Wall.

The vote followed almost one and one-half hours of public comment, along with statements by Mayor Nelson Crabb and each Council representative.

Catherine L. Wells

 Catherine L. Wells, 84, Clear Lake, went to be with her Lord and Savior Sunday, July 27, 2014, at the Good Shepherd Health Center, Mason City, Iowa.
A Celebration of Life Party for friends and family will be held from 2-4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 1, at Apple Valley Assisted Living, 405 27th Ave. S., Clear Lake. According to her wishes her body has been cremated after the family had a private viewing at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake. The family requests that gifts be given to Hospice of North Iowa, Mason City, or the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.
