Dennis John “Denny” Davis, 69, of 604 S. 12th St., Clear Lake, died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2013 at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa, Mason City.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2013 at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, with Chaplin 

Beverly Butler of Mercy Medical Center North Iowa officiating.  Burial was in the Clear Lake Cemetery with military honors provided by the Clear Lake V.F.W.  Family suggests memorials to Dennis John Davis Memorial Fund.

GHV girls fall to West Fork in season opener

Sluggish defense caused problems for the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura girls as they dropped the opening game of the season to West Fork, 49-37, on Tuesday, Nov. 26.

Lion wrestlers open season Thursday at home against St. Eds

The Clear Lake wrestling team opens up its schedule Thursday, Dec. 5, at 6:30 p.m. against Ft. Dodge St. Edmond.   The Lions begin the season ranked seventh in Class 2A; St. Ed’s is rated sixth in Class 1A.

“They usually do not have very many junior varsity kids, so we could be starting early,” stated Lion Coach Gary Weber.

The need is great; Ornaments remain on Giving Tree

Approximately 75 ornaments remain on the 24th annual Giving Tree on display in the Mirror-Reporter office, 12 N. 4th St.

This year the tree featured approximately 200 ornaments representing the wishes of local children and families.  In the 23 years that the Mirror-Reporter has housed the tree, needs have never been left unmet.  In fact, those choosing 

ornaments often remark that they had more fun shopping for someone they didn’t know than someone they did. 

Lions earn post season recognition

As expected, Class 3A District 3 champion Clear Lake led the balloting for All-District players.  The Lions placed six players on the First Team All-District offense and six on the defense.

The Lion defense is represented by Chandler Diercks, defensive back; Zach Zwiefel, defensive line; Pete Swenson, inside linebacker; Tim Franken, outside linebacker/defensive end; Connor Nosbisch, outside linebacker/defensive end; and 

Chase Lester, utility.
