Christine M. Dean

Christine “Chris” Mary Dean, 66, Clear Lake, died Monday, Nov. 11, 2013 at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

A funeral mass for Chris was held on Friday, Nov. 15, 2013, at the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Clear Lake, with Rev. John Gossman officiating.  Burial was in the Clear Lake Cemetery.  

Those wishing to give a memorial in her memory may wish to consider memorials to Hospice of North Iowa.

Revena M. Collins

Revena M. Collins, 85, Clear Lake, died Friday, Nov. 15, 2013 at the Rehabilitation  Center of Hampton, Iowa.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2013 at the Christian Church, 302 Hwy. 18 W., Clear Lake, with Rev. Dennis Ganz officiating.  Inurnment will be at a later date.  According to her wishes, her body has been cremated.  Memorials may be given to the Revena M. Collins Memorial Fund.

Frances E. Miller

Frances Elizabeth Miller, 88, of Ventura, died Friday, Nov. 8, 2013 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013 at the Ventura United Methodist Church, Ventura, with Dr. Rev. Rhoda Preston officiating.  Interment was in the Ventura Cemetery, Ventura.  

Frances was born Feb. 10, 1925, in rural Clear Lake, the daughter of Chris and Petra (Christensen Bach) Sorensen.  She attended school in Clear Lake and graduated from Mason City High School in 1942.

Virginia Mary Ellen Millard

Virginia Mary Ellen (Scholl) Millard, 88, Clear Lake, died Sunday, Nov. 17, 2013 at the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.  A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 21, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Rockwell.  

Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. with a Scriptural Wake Service at 6 p.m. on Wednesday at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake.  Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the service. 

Lawrence M. Bowlin

Lawrence Marvin Bowlin of Lebanon, Mo., formerly of Clear Lake, was born Sept. 9, 1935 in Mason City, to Marvin Reeves Bowlin and Myrtle Mae Grell Bowlin.  He passed away peacefully in his sleep in Lebanon with his son, Larry, at his side.

It was his last wish to be cremated and then have his ashes spread with his mom and dad in Clear Lake at the Clear Lake Cemetery.  On May 25, 2014, at 11 a.m. there will be a memorial remembrance for Lawrence to give loved ones that knew him time to come home as well.

GHV players earn post-season honors

Following a successful season, the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura Cardinals football team was honored by having 10 senior players recognized as Class 2A District 2 All-District selections.

Earning First Team honors was:  Sahid Devora, defensive line; Braden Meints, linebacker, kicker and punter; Colton Knutson, defensive back; Nic Tusha, linebacker; and Shawn Murphy, defensive line.

Palmer resigns as CLAC director

Clear Lake Arts Center Director Amy Palmer has submitted her resignation to the CLAC Board of Directors.  

City posts stellar financial report (again)

The City of Clear Lake could probably teach the federal government a thing or two about fiscal responsibility.

Again in fiscal year 2013 the City excels in limiting its debt.  Monday night City Administrator Scott Flory presented the Annual Financial Report which will be submitted to the Iowa Department of Management and the State Auditor’s Office.
