Cardinals pick up three wins

 

It was a good week for Cardinal baseball, as they topped Belmond-Klemme and swept a double header from North Iowa, moving their record to 8-14.

Garner-Hayfield/Ventura held Belmond-Klemme scoreless on Wednesday, June 26, on their way to a 4-0 victory.

Clear Lake softball team returns favor and beats Algona

 

The Clear Lake softball team dropped three games, then finished the week with a well played game which gave the Lions a win over Algona just one night after they were thumped by the same team.

Eagle Grove 3, CL 2

Trailing 3-1 after four innings, the Lions came roaring back and scored two runs in the top of the fifth inning in a conference battle played June 21 at Eagle Grove.  The Eagles stiffened their defense and held on for the 3-2 win.

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura softball team may not be seeing results in the win column, but the coach is seeing results in other areas of play.

Tom J. Treloar, 83, of rural  Clear Lake, died Sunday, June 30, 2013 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.  

A celebration of his life will be held at a later time.  

Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, is in charge of arrangements.

Betty C. Johnson

 

Betty Cathryn Johnson, 88, of Las Vegas, Nev., formerly of Clear Lake, passed away on Monday, June 24, 2013. Per her wishes, a graveside service will be held at noon on Monday, July 8, in the Nevada Municipal Cemetery, Nevada, Iowa, with Pastor Tom Poppe officiating.

Patricia A. Cain

 

Patricia Ann (Kudje) Cain, age 83, of Harrison, Ark., formerly of Klemme, Iowa, died, Jan. 3, 2013, at Harrison, where she had lived since 1988.  

A graveside service was held Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at Ell Township Cemetery, Klemme.  Patricia was the daughter of Arthur and Maybelle (Johnson) Kudje. She attended Klemme Schools and graduated from Klemme High School.

Jerry Kropp, of Garner, was cited for spilling a load on Highway 18 after his boat fell off a trailer Sunday.  The 

accident occured at the intersection of Highway 18 and County Road S-14 at Ventura.  No on was injured.-Submitted photo.

The lake level dropped 1.08” to its 

new reading of +3.12” above the weir.  Last year at this time the lake measured -13.08” below the weir.

The biggest and best 4th of July Celebration is ready to begin!

Five jam packed days of fun will begin today (Wednesday, July 3) with the Evans United Shows Carnival at 5 p.m. and will continue through Sunday, July 7. Wristband days will 

be noon to 5 p.m. on Friday, July 5, and Sunday, July 7, for just $17.
