Lions rack up four more wins

 

The number two ranked (3A) Clear Lake baseball team breezed through a busy week, adding four more wins to their record.  Those wanting to see the talented Lions (10-1) can catch them at home Thursday and Friday nights against Forest City and Iowa Falls-Alden.   The Lions are currently tied for the lead in the North Central Conference with Iowa Falls-Alden.

Area athletes earn soccer conference recognition

 

Three members of the Clear Lake softball team and three from Garner-Hayfield/Ventura received Honorable Mention recognition in the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association All-State Soccer voting.

Seniors Summer Tannahill and Hannah Bartlett, along with junior Logan Anderson were honored from Clear Lake’s school record-setting 10-4 squad.

Seniors Jesslyn Prohaska and Bethany Nannenga, and sophomore Emily Spilman represented G-H/V on the Class 1A Honorable Mention list.

Cardinals move record to 2-8

 

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura baseball team moved their record to 2-8, with two losses and one win in recent baseball action.

The Cardinals hosted Osage on Wednesday, June 5.  

Two Lions named to All-State Soccer Teams

 

 The Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association (IHSSCA) has released its 2013 All-State Teams in boys’ soccer for Class 1A, 2A, and 3A.

In Class 2A, Clear Lake’s Antonio DiMarco was a Second Team selection.  The senior mid-fielder helped to lead the Lions to an 11-5 season.   DiMarco scored 15 goals while playing in 16 games.   

Lions goal keeper Bryson Hamilton received Class 2A Honorable Mention as a goal keeper. 

G-H/V softball team picks up first win of the season

 

The week started off rough for the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura softball team, but it ended on a high note.  The Cardinals dropped five games before picking up a win.  The Cardinals record now stands at 1-11.

“We had a busy week of games and showed improvement throughout,” said Coach Christina Weiser.  “We are getting great offensive production from the top of our batting order and continue to make 

progress in all aspects of the game.”

After sparking their season with back-to-back wins a week earlier, the Clear Lake softball team dropped three contests with North Central Conference teams.

The Lions shoed defensive improvement, but their bats were silent in a 4-0 loss to Algona Garrigan Monday, June 3.

The lake continues to rise.  As of Tuesday, June 11, the lake

 measured +0.96” above the weir.  Last year at this time the lake measured -12.36” below the weir.

DNR battles spread of invasive species with boater education

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is reminding boaters and anglers to “Clean, Drain, and Dry” their boats and equipment to protect Iowa lakes and rivers from aquatic hitchhikers. 

 

Drive begins to fund development of a dog park

 

The Clear Lake Park and Recreation Committee is launching a fund drive to support development of a Dog Park within its Outlet Recreation Complex on 12th Avenue South.

“Since the city is putting a hard surface path in the recreation area it is time to obtain funds for the Dog 

Magazine declares Clear Lake farmstead is one of prettiest in Iowa

 

A five-page full-color layout in “Our Iowa” magazine declares Carroll and El Etchen’s farm south of Clear Lake among the “Prettiest Farms in Iowa”. 

The magazine scours Iowa to showcase an outstanding farm in every issue, noting that “nothing symbolizes our state like proudly primped and painted farmsteads.”
