It was another tough week for the Cardinals, as they dropped four more contests, putting their record at 1-15.

Belmond-Klemme rolled over the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura softball team, 14-4, on Monday, June 10.

The Clear Lake City Council got its first look at a City Hall renovation which will bring the Parks and Recreation Department to City Hall and more than double the size of the police Department.

Architect Randy Cram, of Bergland + Cram in Mason City, shared a layout which his office developed, along with Police Chief Greg Peterson over the past year.  The plan increases not only the energy 

efficiency and safety of the 50-plus year-old building, but will improve operating efficiency, he said.

Like every good idea, it started with a goal: let’s have a life changing adventure the summer between our junior and senior years. That’s how Running from Malaria began back in November 2012. Since then Waverly-Shell Rock honor students Brad Wylam, Scott Van Daalen and Ethan Wise have been contacting churches, newspapers and radio stations to make their dream become a reality-- three teenagers-- 350 miles-- 21 days.

Saturday, they will stop in Clear Lake to shower, enjoy a potluck and share their adventure with all interested persons.

   Duane L. Thompson, 85, of Belmond, Iowa, died Friday, June 7, 2013 at the Rehabilitation Center of Hampton, Iowa, where he had been a resident for a short time.  Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at the Belmond United Methodist Church, Belmond.  The Reverend Cindy Morrison 

officiated.  Burial was in the Belmond Cemetery.   The family suggests those wishing to express their sympathies through a memorial in Duane’s name consider the American Diabetes Association, American Heart Association, or to the donor’s choice.
