City will pick up tree limbs Thursday

 

Workers from the City of Clear Lake will be moving through town Thursday, picking up tree limbs fallen as a result of last week’s snowstorm.  Residents should pile their downed limbs at the curb by 7:30 a.m. 

Thursday.  Pick-ups will not take place in alleys.  Length should be limited to 12-14-feet and diameter of the limbs should be less than six to eight-inches.  

Clear Lake Mayor Nelson Crabb suggested the City schedule the special pick-up as a good gesture to its citizens.

Maxine Shropshire

 

Maxine Jean Shropshire, 89, of Clear Lake, passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at her residence.  Memorial Services were held on Saturday, April 27, at the Galilean Lutheran Church, Clear Lake, with Pastor Scot McCluskey officiating.  Inurnment will be at a later date at Elmwood Cemetery, Forest City, Iowa.  Family suggest memorials to the Maxine Jean Shropshire Memorial Fund

Maxine was born March 15, 1924 the daughter of Andrew and Laura (Johnson) Moen at Forest City. 

Marlys McCluskey

 

Marlys R. McCluskey, 86, of Rushford, Minn., died on Thursday, April 25, 2013 at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Rushford. 

The funeral service was on Monday, April 29, at the Trinity Fellowship ELCA Church in Rushford, with the Rev. Kristin Rice officiating.  Burial was on Tuesday, April 30, in the Bergen Cemetery in Lester Prairie, Minn.  The family prefers memorials directed to the Trinity Fellowship ELCA Church.

Area athletes compete at Drake Relays

 

G-H/V’s Larson wins it all in the shot put

It was a record breaking day for Garner-Hayfield/Ventura’s Dasiana Larson, who broke the Garner-Hayfield school record on her way to winning the girls shot put at the Drake Relays on Friday, April 26.

 

Lions blank Aplington-Parkersburg, 8-0

 

The Clear Lake boys soccer team was too much for Aplington-Parkersburg Friday night.  The Lions blanked A-P, 8-0.

The Lions’ first score came in the seventh minute when Antonio DiMarco scored on an assist from Jack Abbas.  Jack Finn scored two-minutes later, assisted by a Carson Farmer throw in.  

CL girls tennis team remains perfect

 

The Clear Lake girls tennis team improved to 5-0 with a resounding 8-1 victory over Osage Friday, April 26.

Jenna Peterson dropped her number one singles match, 10-5, but teamed with Carly Ouverson to avenge the loss to Kloe Chisholm and partner, Annetta Krulow in doubles, 10-4.

Clear Lake and G-H/V soccer teams square off in triangular meet

 

The Clear Lake and Garner-Hayfield/Ventura soccer teams squared off at a triangular event Saturday in Garner.

CL 8, GH/V 2

In the first match of the day, Clear Lake topped the host school, 8-2. 

Logan Anderson scored three goals, Ivy Hogg and Emily Phalen each had two and Megan Kopriva scored one in the Lion victory.  

Riley Brinkman defended five shots in goal, while Clear Lake made 24 shots at the Cardinals’ net. GH/V keeper Samantha Bets had 22 saves in the match.  

Another victory for CL boys tennis team

 

  The Clear Lake boys tennis team recorded a 9-0 victory at Iowa Falls-Alden Friday, April 26.

In singles action, Sam Jones was a 10-3 winner over Caleb Perkins in the number one match.  Jerry Kockler topped 

CL boys golf team meets tough competition

 

The Clear Lake boys golf team managed to get in a pair of outings last week.  The Lions, now 5-7 on the season are at home Thursday for a quadragular including Algona, Iowa Falls and Newman Catholic.
