Weather doesn’t slow down the G-H/V boys track team

 

Two nights of very cold track meets proved to be successful for the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura boys track team.

Hampton Meet

The team competed at Hampton on Monday, April 15, and took third place in an 11-team meet with 78 points, behind Hampton-Dumont with 104 points, and Clear Lake with 101 points.

“It was nice to compete against schools that we don’t normally see.  To finish in the top three with these quality programs is very promising for our program,” said Coach Tracy Schmidt.

Fischels leads CL girls

 

 

Malorie Fischels earned medalist honors and led the Clear Lake girls golf team to a season-opening victory over Clarion-Goldfield and 

Webster City Tuesday, April 16.  The Lions shot a 188 to easily outdistance C-G with 223 and the Lynx with 258.

Diercks and Nosbisch to compete in Drake Relays

 

Clear Lake track standouts Chandler Diercks and Connor Nosbisch have both qualified for the prestigious Drake Relays.

According to Coach AJ Feuerbach, Diercks has the third best jump in the state so far this year at 22’ 7” and will compete on Friday morning, April 26, at 9:30 a.m.

Car driven into lake investigated

 

Clear Lake police are continuing to investigate an early morning report of a car in Clear Lake Saturday.

At 3:29 a.m. Saturday, Clear Lake police received a call reporting a car had gone in to the lake at the 5th Avenue North public access.  Officer Eric Hythecker, who was the first officer on the scene, could not see if 

Child abduction averted by local bar patrons

 

A Clear Lake mother and child are doing well in the wake of a scary experience.

Katie Showalter, owner of Rumorz at 1210 South Shore Drive, said she pulled into the bar with her baby on her way home approximately 3:45 p.m. Saturday afternoon to change him and to use the restroom.  Showalter, 37, left the baby 

School Board hires KES to secure substitutes

 

 

CLHS band director resigns; advertising begins for three positions

 

The Clear Lake School Board approved advertising for three important school positions Monday night.  The district finds itself in need of a Middle School principal, high school band instructor and part-time nurse.

Last week it was announced that Middle School Principal Dan Long would be leaving to become principal at Mason City

Irene Hiscocks

 

Irene A. Hiscocks, 81, of Garner, Iowa, died Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at the Concord Care Center in Garner.

Funeral services were held Saturday, April 13, 2013 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Garner with Fr. Dennis Miller officiating.  Burial was in the church cemetery.  Cataldo Funeral Home, Garner, was in charge of arrangements. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Boniface Catholic Church and may be sent in care of the family of Irene Hiscocks, 2340 210th St., Garner, Iowa,  50438.

Elaine Pitkin

 

Elaine G. Pitkin, 80, of Clear Lake, died Saturday, April 13, 2013 at the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at the Rolling Acres Christian Reform Church, Mason City, with Rev. Jack Vanden Heavel and Rev. Nate DeVries officiating.  Burial was in Meservey Cemetery, Meservey, Iowa.  Family suggests memorials to Hospice of North Iowa.

Lois Trimble

 

Lois  Trimble, 89, Clear Lake, died Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.  

     A Funeral Mass was held  Saturday, April 13, 2013 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Clear Lake,  with Rev. John Gossman and Msgr. John Hemann co-celebrating.  Interment was held at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.  Memorials may be given to the Lois Trimble Memorial Fund.
