Recent warm weather caused over 

a 2” drop in the lake level.  The lake now measures -2.28” below the weir.  Last year at this time the lake measured -38.52” below the weir.

CL volleyball team sweeps Eagle Grove

 

The Clear Lake varsity volleyball team swept Eagle Grove 3-0 in a match played Thursday, Sept. 5, in Eagle Grove.  The Lions prevailed, 25-17, 25-13, 25-14.  The victory puts the Lions at 3-3 in match play and 1-0 in the conference.

Coach Scott Swenson called the win a “total team effort.”

“The play of Carney Frahm, Sidney Borrill, Katie Hewitt, Sam Wilkinson and Marcie Dick was instrumental in making this a total team effort against Eagle Grove. The girls played with a lot of enthusiasm and vitality,” said Swenson.

Collision sends one to hospital

Still no candidates in Ventura

 

With less than a week to go, no one has filed for Mayor or Council seats

 

The future make-up of Ventura City government is still very much up in the air with less than a week for candidates to file nomination papers.

Incumbent Mayor George Simpson and Council representative Pat Kuhlmeier say they are uncertain about 

seeking re-election.  Councilman Brian Vaage, whose second term will also be expiring this year, could not be reached for comment.

CL Police make arrest in wake of July incident

 

A Mason City man has been arrested on willful injuries charges stemming from a July 6 incident in Clear Lake.

Margaret Hansen

 

Margaret Jean Hansen, 91, formerly of Clear Lake, Iowa, died Mondy, Sept 2, 2013 at the Nora Springs Care Center, Nora Springs, Iowa.

A visitation will be held Thursday, 2 – 4 p.m., with a time of sharing memories at 3 p.m. at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. 4th St., Clear Lake.

Mary C. Barragy

 

     Mary C. Barragy, 69, of Mason City, died Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013, at her home in Mason City.  

     Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013 at Epiphany Parish – St. Joseph Catholic Church, 302 5th St. S.E., Mason City.  Following the Mass, cremation rites will be accorded and inurnment will be held at a future date in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.

Ingebord H. Sell

 

     Ingeborg “Inge” H. Sell, 93, 1610 Highland Dr., Clear Lake, died Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2013 at the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.

     Do to her wishes, she was a cremated and there will be no service at this time.

     Family suggests memorials to Hospice of North Iowa or Central Gardens.

     She was born on June 17, 1920 in Pforzheim, Germany, the daughter of Heinrich and Paula (Ruecker) Jaschinowski.
