CL Middle School principal accepts Mason City job

 

Clear Lake Middle School Principal Dan Long will be leaving the district at the end of the school year to accept the position of principal at Mason City High School.

Superintendent Anita Micich made the announcement Friday.

Micich not among final two considered in Nebraska

 

Superintendent of Schools Anita Micich has not been offered a similar position in Nebraska.

Micich had recently informed the Clear Lake School Board that she was one of six candidates interviewing for a superintendent’s position at the Papillion-LaVista School District, located south of Omaha, Nebraska.  After interviewing the candidates early last week, two finalists-- both from Nebraska, were chosen.

Karren Rae (Kaster) Huff, 68, of St. Paul, Minn., died Sunday March 24, 2013 at the Ramsey County Care Center, Maplewood, Minn.

Due to her wishes, she was cremated and a Celebration of Life will be held from 4 - 6 p.m., Saturday, April 13, 2013 at the North St. Paul V.F.W., North St. Paul, Minn.  Family suggests memorials to Karren Rae Huff Memorial Fund,

James H. King, age 93, passed away at Muse Norris Hospice in Mason City, on Saturday, April 6, 2013 after a brief illness. 

Jim’s funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, April 11, 2013 at the Clear Lake United Methodist Church, with Rev. Dr. Rhoda Preston officiating.   Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Wednesday,  April 10, at 

Clear Lake boys dominate IF-A, 9-0

 

The Clear Lake boys tennis team dominated Iowa Falls-Alden 9-0 in the first meet of the year.

Number one singles player Sam Jones topped Caleb Perkins  6-0, 6-2.  Jerry Kockler also swept Brandon Holdgrafer, 6-2, 7-5.

Pair of wins for CL girls; top IF-A and Mason City

 

The Clear Lake girls tennis team opened the season with a pair of wins in matches against Iowa Falls-Alden and Mason City.

Lions top MC in boys soccer action

 

It took a bit to get going, but when they did the Clear Lake boys soccer team rolled past Mason City 5-1 Monday night, April 8.

Mason City scored the first goal of the contest in the 11th minute of the first half and that score stood until Clear Lake’s Antonio DiMarco tied the contest in the 25th minute on a penalty kick.  

Cold and wind don’t bother G-H/V boys

 

It was a cold and windy season opener for the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura boys track team when they traveled to Clarion Friday, April 5, for the Cowboy Relays.  Despite temperatures hovering at around 45 degrees and 20-plus mph winds, the Cardinals were ready for some outdoor competition.

“No one complained about the weather, because everyone was excited to be racing,” said Head Coach Tracy Schmidt.

G-H/V finished the meet with 67 points, placing them fifth in the six-field class.  Iowa Falls-Alden won the meet with 119 points.

CL girls track team participates in warm-up meet at Charles City

The Clear Lake girls track team opened the season with a warm-up meet at Charles City Thursday, April 4.  In addition to the Lions and host team, Wapsie Valley and Mason City participated in the meet.  No team scores were kept.

The Lions had strong performances from both distance runners and sprinters in their first outing.
