With temperatures forecast to reach into the 60s this week, those who love ice sports were scrambling for their fun over the weekend.  (Above) The DN Western Region Ice Boat Championship was held on Clear Lake. At racetime ice was 20-inches thick away from the aerators.

Airport searches for new carrier

The Mason City Airport Commission was scheduled to meet late Tuesday afternoon to discuss its search for a new commercial air carrier.

Airport Manager David Sims announced last week that SkyWest Airlines has provided the United States Department of Transportation with a 90-day Notice of its Intent to Discontinue Service to 29 Essential Air Service Communities, including Mason City.  

SkyWest is citing the ongoing pilot staffing shortages as the reason for ending service.

IFCA: A half-century of service to the community

In January 1972, a group of community leaders, along with church leaders, realized there was a need to minister and help the many transient persons who passed through Clear Lake.  Interfaith Fellowship for Community Action (IFCA) was born from this recognized need in the community.  IFCA, which is comprised of 12 area churches, is celebrating its 50th anniversary.
