Girls remain in control of NCC; Drop game to FC

The Clear Lake girls remained in control in the North Central Conference with a win over Webster City Friday night, but 15th ranked Forest City knocked off the seventh ranked Lions, 62-46, Saturday.  Clear Lake is 5-0 in the NCC and 6-2 overall.  This week they host St. Edmond (0-6, 0-9) Friday and Algona (3-2, 4-6) Tuesday, Jan. 18.

Hotel opens its doors

In advance of its Friday, Jan. 7 opening, Clear Lake City Council members were treated to a tour of the new Fairfield by Marriott Hotel in Clear Lake. Ground was broken in June 2020 for the project.  It is the first hotel built in Clear Lake in this century.

The 84 room hotel features an indoor pool and 5,400 square foot meeting/conference space. It is located in the city’s new Courtway Park Development Subdivision just east of Interstate 35 off of Highway 122. -Reporter photos.

Fair board asks City for $100K contribution

Clear Lake City Council members say they will consider a request to contribute $100,000 to a North Iowa Events Center capital campaign which would allow the group to expand and improve its facilities in an effort to host horse and livestock shows year-round.

Don O’Connor, a member of the North Iowa Fair Board, met with Council members last week to discuss the Board’s vision and plan of action to go from a seven-month facility to 12.

Latham announces re-election bid to Iowa House

Shannon Latham, a Republican from Sheffield, has announced she will run for re-election to the new Iowa House District 55. Latham was elected in 2020 to Iowa House District 54 after Speaker Linda Upmeyer did not seek re-election.

“It is truly an honor to serve in the Iowa House. This privilege isn’t lost on me each time I walk through the doors of our beautiful state capitol building,” says Latham, whose interest in public service was sparked when she was a 4-H member and attended Citizenship Washington Focus (CWF).
