Governor addresses wave of hesitancy

The state hit another vaccination milestone last week, but vaccine hesitancy could slow down progress being made towards herd immunity.

During her regular press conference on Wednesday, April 21, Governor Kim Reynolds announced that more than a third of eligible Iowans are now fully vaccinated, making Iowa the 15th most vaccinated state in the country.

Mervin “Merv” J. Dirksen, 93, of Clear Lake passed away Saturday, April 24, 2021 at the Oakwood Care Center, in Clear Lake.

A funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, April 30, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 310 1st Avenue North, Clear Lake.  Mervin will be laid to rest beside his wife, Joan, at Memorial Park Cemetery, in Mason City.

Ileen Newman, 96, formerly of Clear Lake, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 18, 2021, at Heritage Care Center, in Mason City.

Visitation was held on Thursday, April 22, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake.  A family graveside service was held on Friday, April 23, at Memorial Park Cemetery, in Mason City.

Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.
