The City of Clear Lake intends to hold its tax rate steady for a sixth consecutive year.

The proposed City tax rate for the 2022 Fiscal Year, which begins on July 1, 2021 and ends on June 30, 2022, is proposed to remain unchanged from its current rate of $9.70 per $1,000 of taxable valuation.

Chimney fire damages home

Approximately $12,000 in damage was caused by a chimney fire in the attic of a rural Clear Lake home Monday night, Feb. 8.

At approximately 8:02 p.m., the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office received a call from the resident of a home located at 9050 B 300th St.  The Clear Lake Fire Department responded with two engine companies, 10 firefighters, and one ambulance crew with two medics.

The Iowa Newspaper Association and more than 50 Iowa newspaper reporters attempted to contact more than 300 Iowa law enforcement agencies starting in early November to request copies of their policies on body cameras and in-car dashboard cameras.
