Girls drop first two games

The Lions played fierce defense in their opening games of the season, but lost by a single goal against Garner-Hayfield-Ventura and Aplington-Parkersburg.

Boys soccer tops Charles City in season opener

 The Clear Lake Lions kicked off the soccer season with an 8-1 victory over Charles City on Thursday, April 8.  The loss sent the Comets to 1-2 in the early season.

Coach Zach Hall said his team started the game out a bit slow, but got rid of the jitters and settled down 10 minutes into the game.

CL girls tennis team keeps improving

Kaley Meyer won an exciting match in a tie-breaker to give Clear Lake their only win in a match played with Iowa Falls-Alden Thursday, April 8.

The senior leader of the Lion squad battled her opponent to an 8-8 tie in the number one singles match.  She prevailed in the tie-breaker, 7-5.

“Besides not ending on top, the girls played some pretty good games,” remarked Coach Cat Aragon-Bauer.   “We definitely improved from Monday and had a good, chilly night of tennis.”

Honor Society initiates, 1971  - Fifteen new members were initiated into the Semper Fidelis Chapter of the National Honor Society in 1977.  New members were front row (L-R):  Nancy Lambert, Sally Kennedy, Debbie Gilbertson, Denis Kremin, Lois Sauce, Evelyn Sell, Caroline Hanson; back row (L-R): John Hendricks, Clark Christian, Lynn Thayer, Mike Schwichtenberg, Ted Schuler, John Fricker, Dan Schmidt and Ken Usher.

Lenna Mae Wilder

Lenna Mae (Mariner) Wilder passed away in the early morning of April 13, 2021 at her home in Garner.

  Graveside services will be held on Saturday, April 17, at 11 a.m. at the Clear Lake Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest beside her husband and grandson.  

Memorials can be given to St. Criox Hospice or any food bank of your choice.
