Clear Lakers look ahead to life without COVID

(Above) Riley Brinkman, shown here with friends last Christmas in Peru, spent the majority of the COVID quarantine helping people in Peru, where she puts her nursing degree to good use.  Brinkman was able to come back to Clear Lake in the fall and she stayed through the holidays before returning to Peru.  “It’s been a time of sorrow and mourning, but it is returning to joy and celebrating the goodness of God, even in trials, that I am so eager and longing to get back to,” said Brinkman.

(Above) Star atop the Watertower, 1970 - Neither fog, drizzle nor wind could keep workmen from Clear Lake Water Tower Paint and Repair Co. from putting the traditional Christmas star atop the main water tower in 1970.  The custom of putting the star up as a service to the community was started many years ago by the late Earle Bagenstos, president of the firm at that time.

Remember When 12-30-2020

Lions defeat IF-A; head to break with 5-1 record

The Clear Lake boys wrapped up the 2020 portion of their season with a win Tuesday, Dec. 22, against Iowa Falls-Alden.  The Lions improved to 3-1 in the conference and 5-1 overall with a 71-56 victory.

The Lions broke the tight game open in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Cadets 23-10.

The third rated (3A) Lions sit atop the North Central Conference with a 5-0 record; they are 8-0 overall.  Iowa Falls-Alden was expected to push the Lions in the year-end finale.  The Cadets entered the game with a just one loss.

Jerry R. Pearson

Jerry Rex Pearson, 75, Clear Lake, died Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2020, in Des Moines.

According to his wishes, Jerry’s body has been donated to the University of Iowa Deeded Body Program for medical research.  A private family Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 30, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 310 1st Ave. N., Clear Lake, with the Rev. Harlan Seri officiating. Inurnment will be at Clear Lake Cemetery at a later date.  

Raymond R. Ebaugh

Raymond Robert Ebaugh, 89, of Clear Lake, died Friday, Dec. 25, 2020, at Hancock County Health System, in Britt.

Per Ray’s wishes, his body has been cremated and a private family inurnment will be held at a later date.

Ray was born Jan. 1, 1931, the son of Raymond L. and Leila (Dodd) Ebaugh, in Clear Lake. He married Betty Ebaugh on Nov. 1, 1952, in Sacramento, Calif. She preceded him in death on June 20, 2019.
