City, school pen letter of intent for proposed wellness center

A letter of intent to construct a wellness and recreation center in partnership with the Clear Lake School District received positive reaction Monday night from the  Clear Lake City Council.

The Clear Lake girls showed Charles City why they are an early season favorite in Class 3A.  The Lions sunk the Comets, 63-27 in their season opener Tuesday, Nov. 26.

“It was good to get that first win to start the season.  We see some good and some things we need to improve on,” said Head Coach Bart Smith.  “I was pleased with our defensive pressure and our balanced scoring.”

Raymond J. Prohaska

Raymond J. Prohaska, 88, of Clear Lake, went to his heavenly home on Saturday, Nov. 30, 2019.  He died at the Madrid Home in Madrid, Iowa, from Alzheimer’s disease.

  Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1001 9th Ave. S., Clear Lake, with the Rev. Fr. John Gossman as celebrant and Msgr. John Hemann as concelebrant.  Burial will be at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, in Duncan, with military rites by the Garner Veterans Ceremonial Unit.

Raymond J. Prohaska, 88, of Clear Lake, went to his heavenly home on Saturday, Nov. 30, 2019.  He died at the Madrid Home in Madrid, Iowa, from Alzheimer’s disease.

Jack A. Kimball

Jack Allen Kimball, 88, of Clear Lake, died Monday, Nov. 25, 2019, at I.O.O.F. Home, in Mason City.

Per Jack’s wishes, no funeral will be held and he will be buried next to his parents in Clear Lake Cemetery.

Jack was born June 3, 1931, the son of Shirley and Agnetha (Christensen) Kimball, in Clear Lake. He graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1949, and then attended Cornell College briefly before joining the United States Navy. He achieved the rank of Petty Officer First Class in less than four years and was honorably discharged.

Carina M. Ellickson

Carina Mae Ellickson, 32, of Chicago, Ill., formerly of Clear Lake, died Saturday, Nov. 30, 2019, in Chicago.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, 2019, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. 4th St., Clear Lake.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
