Faber and Merfeld receive post-season recognition

Clear Lake’s Sara Faber has received state-wide honors for her exceptional play on the basketball court.  Faber, a junior, was named to the Iowa Girls Coaches Association Class 3A First Team, as well as the Iowa Print Sports Writers Association’s Second Team.  Faber, along with junior Julia Merfeld, were also named to the All-Region team.

Faber was an all-around leader on the Lions team which finished the season with 17-5 record.

Cardinals lands three players on TIC West teams

The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura boys basketball team landed three players on the 2018-19 Top of Iowa West Division Boys Basketball All-Conference teams.

GHV’s James Betz earned a spot on the First Team, while Landon Dalbeck was named to the Second Team and Justin Reding earned Honorable Mention recognition.

Betz, a senior, wrapped up his career at GHV with many accolades, not only in the conference, but at GHV as well.

Kenneth A. Thomsen

Kenneth A. Thomsen, 95, of Clear Lake, died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2019, at Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, in Mason City.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 23, at Clear Lake United Methodist Church, 508 2nd Ave. N., Clear Lake, with Pastor David Peterson officiating.  Inurnment will be at Lincoln Township Cemetery in rural Hanlontown a later date.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

Visitation will be from 3-5 p.m. Sunday, March 24, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. 4th St., Clear Lake.
