Charles W. Rayburn

Charles W Rayburn, 95, of Clear Lake, passed away Thursday, March 7, 2019, at Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 15, at Clear Lake United Methodist Church, 508 2nd Avenue North, Clear Lake, with the Rev. David Peterson officiating.  Burial will be held at a later date.  Military honors will be conducted by the Clear Lake VFW.

Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, March 14, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 North 4th Street, Clear Lake.

Larry V. Toresdahl

Larry Vern Toresdahl, 63, lifelong resident of Clear Lake, died Saturday, March 9, 2019, at Oakwood Care Center, in Clear Lake.

Per Larry’s wishes, his body has been cremated and no services are planned at this time.

Larry was born April 26, 1955, the son of Gordon and Alice (Lovick) Toresdahl, in Mason City.  He married Regina Floy on Jan. 25, 1977, in Clear Lake and to that union two children were born.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 14, at St. Patricks Catholic Church, 1001 9th Ave. S., Clear Lake, with the Rev. John Gossman officiating.  An inurnment will be held at Clear Lake Cemetery at a later date.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 13, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. 4th St., Clear Lake.

An $8.5 million large scale hotel-conference center is expected to be announced soon in Clear Lake.

City Administrator Scott Flory said a preliminary development agreement and letter of intent may be presented to the Clear Lake City Council as early as its next meeting, set for March 18.

Lester chosen as new Middle School principal

Mike Lester, a local graduate who returned to his hometown as an industrial arts teacher and coach, has been selected as the next principal at Clear Lake Middle School.

Lester’s hiring is expected to be formalized at the next meeting of the Clear Lake School Board March 19.  He will begin his duties in the 2019-20 school year.
