900 classic cars expected for Friday night cruise, Saturday show

Clear Lake’s steady stream of July activities gives way to an August spectacular this weekend.  The Clear Lake Auto Social Society (C.L.A.S.S.) will host its 33rd annual Summer Dance Cruise and Car Show Friday and Saturday, Aug. 3-4, bringing thousands of classic car enthusiasts to town.

Waters, a vascular surgeon with Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa who has made Clear Lake his home since 1983, calls upon his childhood spent in Surf City, on the Jersey Shore, as the setting for his debut novel.

Four Clear Lake girls earn All-North Central Conference recognition

Four members of the Clear Lake softball team have been honored with All-North Central Conference distinction.

Infielder Julia Merfeld and outfielder Sara Faber were First Team All-NCC selections.  Rachel Barillas and Macy Mixdorf were named to the All-NCC Third Team.

Merfeld, a sophomore, led the Lions with a .393 batting average in 14 conference games.  She had 22 hits in 56 at-bats and scored 12 runs.
