(Above) Ventura FFA, 1993 - The Lakeside Future Farmers of America sponsored a coloring contest in Ventura in 1993 for Ventura third and fourth graders during the recent National FFA Week.  The winners were (L-R): fourth graders Nicki Hiemer, first place and Mark Pueggel, second; and third graders Chris Korth, first place and Wesley Pueggel, second.  With the winners are FFA members back row (L-R):  Rob Cash, Wade Humphrey and Aaron Coe.

Timothy Joseph Gehm, 57, of Johnston,  Iowa, passed away Friday, March 30, 2018, of liver cancer at Wellstar Atlanta Medical Center, in Atlanta, Ga. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, April 5, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, in Ames, Iowa. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 6, also at St. Cecilia Catholic Church. Burial will be in Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Elmer W. Pinneke, 63, formerly of Clear Lake and Mason City, passed away after his battle with cancer on Tuesday, March 27, 2018.

A memorial service was held on Tuesday, April 3, 2018, at Reflection Pointe Funeral & Cremation Services, 3201 S. Webb Rd., Wichita, Kan.  Memorial contributions may be made to Kansas Big Brothers Big Sisters, 310 E. 2nd St., Wichita, KS 67202 or Kansas Humane Society, 3313 N. Hillside St., Wichita, KS 67219.

Just two weeks after a snow storm covered the Clear Lake area with more than 16-inches of snow blanketing the area, another storm moved in Tuesday, leaving all of us longing for spring.  Look no further than The Red Geranium on Main Avenue.  (Pictured) Kayla Myers was tending to spring flowers in the Red Geranium’s windows as the snow fell outside Tuesday morning.  Myers said customers have been coming in to remind themselves that spring is coming and “
