Third ranked CL girls continue winning ways

The third ranked (3A) Clear Lake girls added two more victories to their resume coming off the holiday break.  The Lions posted a 20-point North Central Conference win over Webster City Friday, then traveled to Forest City Saturday for a non-conference afternoon tilt.  The wins put the Lions at 11-1 overall and 6-0 in the NCC.

Sara Faber poured in 15 points and the Lions played stout defense in a 46-26 game at Webster City Friday, Jan. 5.  The Lynx fell too 3-3 in the NCC.

The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura boys basketball team picked up where they left off prior to the holiday break, with two more wins, moving their record to 6-2, 9-3.

The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura wrestling team was back in action with two meets last week.

Lake Mills Triangular

GHV traveled to Lake Mills on Thursday, Jan. 4, to compete in a triangular.  The Cardinals picked up a 30-15 win against West Bend-Mallard, but fell to North Union and Lake Mills.

Marilyn Lagios

Marilyn L. (Adams) Lagios, 71, of Clear Lake, passed away at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa on Dec. 27, 2017. She was surrounded by her loving family and caring medical team.

On Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018, a graveside gathering for Marilyn was held at Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, followed by a celebration of life service at the Heritage Room at First Citizens Bank, 2601 4th St SW, Mason City, Iowa. Pastor Tom Martin, of Elk Creek Lutheran Church, Kensett, Iowa, officiated.

William R. Kurtz

    William R. Kurtz, age 81, of rural Klemme, Iowa, died, Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018, at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, Mason City, Iowa, following a valiant and courageous battle with cancer.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 13, 2018, at 11 a.m., at the Clear Lake Christian Church, Highway 18, Clear Lake. Visitation is tentatively set from 5-8 p.m., on Friday, Jan. 12, at the church and one hour prior at church on Saturday.
